Yeah that was up to Sept. 2016. More went in in 2017. My whole stereo system and carbon fiber interior doors were a couple of the items in 2017.

Keep it forever. Don't be one of those old guys that wished they still had the cars they had once.

Progress Report on the Evo. Expected completion to be by Sunday June 24th.

Back in August 2017 I took about a 20 minute highway drive to view a new place to live. The Evo showed no signs of any issue, and I exited the highway. Upon pulling up to the first stoplight, there was a flutter in the rpms. I gave it a little gas, getting the rpm’s up to about 1200 briefly and immediately I saw smoke coming from the engine bay. I quickly turned off the Evo, grabbed my H3R Performance Halguard fire extinguisher that was mounted below my feet on the driver’s side floor and sprayed it through the hood opening. In total the fire lasted maybe 10 seconds but caused a lot of damage.

After towing the Evo home and then to Jeremy Franklin Mitsubishi and finding that no one in the area wanted to touch the car because of the extensive modifications, I decided to have it transported to TJ at Wasatch Turbo Factory. I think it was October 2017 before it finally got there and then took another several weeks before it got quoted for repair in full and inspected by State Farm.

The following was quoted as engine fire damage costing roughly $10,500 which State Farm paid:
    • OEM Engine Control Harness
    • OEM Front Chassis/Control Harness
    • Varis VSDC carbon fiber hood
    • Powder coating my valve cover, intake manifold, Driven Fab coolant & power steering reservoirs, strut bar, upper & lower intercooler pipes, MAF intake pipe, and turbo cover
    • Pull the engine, remove the intake manifold, remove the valve cover, inspect the engine & turbo, remove the fuel rail & injectors
    • Compression & leak-down tests
    • Replace both wiring harnesses
    • New valve gasket
    • New fuel rail and injectors
    • New anodized black engine bolts
    • New DEI thermal tape
    • New Password JDM carbon fiber spark plug cover
    • Tuning Services

Upon tear down of the Evo and just utilizing this downtime and WTF’s expertise, I decided to add a few more items and then we identified some other issues:
    • It was determined that my cylinder head was leaking oil in through the valve stem seals and we replaced the whole head with Demi’s rebuilt head.
    o Ferrea +1mm valves
    o Ferrea valve guides
    o New valve stem seals
    o AMS TMP camshafts
    o Ported & Polished head
o GSC beehive springs & titanium retainers
    • New Spark Plugs
    • Decided to add Girodisc 2-piece rotors on all 4 wheels
    • New Ferodo DS2500 brake pads
    • Powder coated the brake calipers & new Brembo decals
    • Added the Driven Fab ACD Relocate Kit
    • Shimmed the Oil Pump
    • Removed and replaced the rod bearings in the engine
    • Decided to go with a softer set of Innovative 75A motor mounts for all 4 mounts
    • Added a Fluidampr crankshaft pulley
    • Added rear differential bushings & spacers
    • Replaced the damaged velocity stack and air filter on my GruppeM intake
    • Drilled & tapped the valve cover baffles
    • Purchased Murray Clamp tension clamps for the MAF intake piping to replace the old t-clamps.
    • Powder coated the new Murray Clamps
    • Installed a Radium surge tank under the Evo with a Walbro 450 in tank
    • Installed an Easy Performance PWM fuel pump controller
    • Replaced all of the fuel feed hoses
    • Added a Radium Pulse Dampener on the fuel rail
    • Then we discovered that a blade on the exhaust side of my EFR8374 had broken and we purchased a new 8374 Super Core
    • Painted the cast-iron CHRA VHT high-temp grey to prevent rust
    • Reinforced the trunk for my Aeromotions active rear wing

I also ordered a set of AK Retrofits headlights that are being finished today.

This week and next finishing the following items:
    1) Replace the firewall heat shield
    2) My SpeedCircuit Automated Super-Sport stopped working for some reason. (This is fixed. It was a low battery issue.)
    3) Finish the active rear wing trunk reinforcement
    4) Install the surge tank
    5) Tune for 93 octane (primary), 91 octane, and 110 octane race fuel

Pic of engine bay thus far. Still some changes to do with the fuel feed line.

The only item that is not being repaired at WTF at this time is the fire damage to the Varis VSDC hood that left a brown spot on the passenger side vent. My bodyshop feels that it can be sanded out and re-clear coated. If worst comes to worst, then we will paint the hood (and the trunk just to match).

That looks awesome. I like how you say "decided to add a few items" and then list 40 things lol

Thank you both. Yeah, I think I have officially changed every nut, bolt, & bushing on the Evo and all but 3 body panels.

The hope is to never have to work on it again. I am going to be afraid to drive this thing once it gets back for fear of it deciding it wants to break again.

I do have to compliment Colton at Wasatch Turbo Factory. He truly has been thorough in looking over the Evo and making sure that every little detail is being properly addressed and corrected. I am looking forward to getting it back and getting some proper photos.

He's not wrong. I plan to have a very nice looking garage ornament with a For Sale sign on it.

I said "I" hope to never have to work on it again. I will take a $120k loss just to get rid of it.

it's real shit tho. it's probably gonna explode in some way anyway. im on my 3rd motor. razor is about to have a his second meltdown. black e could have built cities in rural africa with the amount of time and money and blown motors that he's had. I love the evo, but damn i wish i would have picked something else.

It's always something else. I have yet to figure out what platform can put down huge horsepowers, stand sustained track beatings, win roll races, and daily without a bump or noise. Oh, and by the way not cost $400k.

I think black e could have built the whole of rural Africa with the amount of work he has put into his car.
The finger cannot point at itself.

One big resolution that came out of replacing the cylinder head, no more P0016/P0017 codes. The cause was the Kelford 214-B camshafts. Every other part on my new cylinder head is the exact same but we replaced the Kelford 214-B cams with AMS TMP cams.

And no more oil pouring down each valve guide... Some people just shouldn't touch engines.
