    Suspension Build/Upgrade

I took the plunge and ordered a full suspension from RaceFab in NZ. All the parts they make:

    KIMG0312.jpg

This stuff is light but well braced/gusseted. I guess they do all of it in chromoly now.

    KIMG0313.jpg

The old parts are out of the car and I am now waiting for the Ohlins dampers to arrive. I had them custom valved for the stiffer spring rates I'll be running.

I'm making TI bolts and other things along the way.

More pics. I'll update with pictures as the work proceeds.

    Dry sump oil tank fittings/lines.

The feed line for the oil pump is much improved with the extra room freed up by the new subframe.

Everything seems to fit just fine.

I suppose all suspension compliance is a thing of the past. There is no telling how it will do on the track, but I expect much more feedback.

You're going to trailer the car to and from the track right? I couldn't imagine driving the car on public roads after this. Brutal.

It wasn't the quietest car given the spring rates I was running. I have solid heim joints in my truck and they don't seem to matter much. But then again, it is an entirely different application.

I'll have the springs next week, so should see things come together.

I'm still thinking about this as an option.

Front and rear are available machined from 7 series aluminum.

I found them some time back, but I cannot seem to locate them again. Or, I have simply imagined them I guess.

    Evo jewelry:

    KIMG0449.jpg

These guys hold in the lower arm and damper in the rear upright. What a great way to blow 4 hours...no, I mean it. Well, it is a good way to blow near $100 in TI.

I need to get cracking on the bolts that hold the front damper to the upright. Unsprung weight reduction is likely the best place to focus.

I finally got a prototype splitter put together. I'll give this thing a go at the National Corvette Museum track in April. Need to sort out a wing too.

Curious to know the current weight on your car after all of these potentially weight-saving upgrades.

Same for me. I'll take it down to the place where I buy steel--they have a scale and don't mind too much if you happen to turn around on it...

All of those parts are nice and shiny, but do remember that with benefits you also get compromises. Make sure to inspect those spherical bushings once in a while. On TRG's GT3 and GT4 PWC Astons, we would have to service them quite often, and the longest race we did was 8 hours with those cars. Keep part numbers handy so that you can order them readily.

Pish posh, sphericals or nothing! Most companies tend to go for low or middle of the road sphericals, so if he ever has to upgrade he can spring for the good stuff and likely not have to replace them again.

FYI, I have those front LCA's and i reccomend running them at the lowest balljoint setting and reducing your caster. Those shanks are quite long and even if you lower the crap out of the vehicle, your upright will be moved upwards along its path and will likely knock the front of the sideskirt in a turn. LMK how the alignment goes.

This suspension is adjustable in every direction. It takes specific equipment to get all this set up right--no way I'm going it alone. I have a suspension/race shop doing it as well as corner balance, and so forth.

I intend to monitor the joints as well as bolt torque. I might well take all the fasteners loose and safety wire it all.

    Goddamn, that stuff is beautiful.

Can't wait to hear the difference you feel it makes. But sounds like you'll be switching from oem suspension to Ohlin's at the same time as putting on these braces. The coilovers will make a huge difference, so I don't know how well you'll be able to distinguish what is a result of the racefab parts :/
