    Stm rear crash bar

Anyone running this rear crash bar replacement?

    http://www.streettunedmotorsports.co...upport_bar.htm

Im trying to drop a bit of wieght off the evo this year for the track without making it a tin can for the streets and everything I read on wieght reduction always keeps comming back to the rear crash beam.

Just want to know how fitment is on this bar and does the rear bumper still fit like stock with it?

A waste of $250. If you're looking to save weight and don't care about safety just take the stock support off. If you do care about safety then saving 30 pounds isn't worth the risk of removing it. Either way spending $250 for a few feet of metal tube and some bolts is nuts.

I sopuses but the liscene plate lights/bolts is important to keep it streetable.

If I could fab Id build something myself but that not an option.

Also 250 bucks for 26lbs on the X is not bad. Its hard to drop weight on this car without tin can gutting or speninding big $$$ for carbon parts.

If you need the plate lights go to home depot and get some of these and a few nuts and bolts and save yourself $240. But that's just my 02.

I just bought one of these and I have bent 0.083 walled chromoly sitting in my garage and a tig welder. It is cheaper to buy it than to make it if you consider time. It's a nice part and mounts the plate and lights, etc.

The rear ends on these cars are really soft, I would suggest against deleting or modifying the crash bar. If you do, even a moderate rear end will total the car.

I have but the wieght savings are not that great for the hassle of finding jdm crash beams vrs the STM bar or running no crash bars.

Yea I personally wouldn't risk it. I know of someone that was rear ended at a dead stop while the driver behind let off the brake and bumped him with his utility van <5mph and he had to have his bumper replaced, crash bar and rear quarter panel. Now imagine a regular passenger car even at moderate speed. Now imagine what would happen with no crash beam. The gain is not worth the risk.

Where do you get this? From what I can tell, the rear of the car looks as beefy as the rest of the car.

The rear crash beam weighs a ton. At least the front is aluminum. A 7075 aluminum crash beam would be good, but there is not much room to reinforce.

From personal knowledge. And a friend owns a body shop which currently has 3 Xs with all rear end damage. And I suppose that is a moot point because the body panel is thin so obviously that being behind the crash beam that is the weak point.

I have one as well. Fitment was fine with the OEM bumper, and even better in that it required no modification when I switched to a Varis Bumper.

I'm sorry but to me that will only ever be a $250 license plate light bracket and a heavy one at that.
