There is a company that still makes a stainless bolt kit for these trucks.

The body bolts come with a black oxide/anodize finish and the kit includes new screws and fasteners for the interior as well.

I have a few more pics from body shop purgatory. The cab, doors, front fenders, and hood bottom are painted. New glass is installed and new door/window hardware. Inner fenders are fixed, painted, and undercoated. The front radiator support was stripped and painted (no rust at all). It is down to the bed and reassembly.

I bought a repro grill and it didn't make me feel giddy inside. So, I did what I always do and bought a bunch of 304 stainless and made my own.

    KIMG0352.jpg
    KIMG0353.jpg
    KIMG0356.jpg

Sorry about that last picture. I'll get better ones once the grill is on the truck.

I went a little overboard on the wall thickness, but I wanted something that would take a hit and protect the radiator. Even the support tabs are a little beefy.

    KIMG0354.jpg

All 304, so no rusty rusty. It will be painted to match the truck with some chrome/stainless surround that came from the factory.

It will take a kamikaze squirrel to get through my grill. Or, like I tell the ladies: My grill has so much ice, I can see my breath.

I finally got a minute to update this non Evo thread.

The fabrication work on the bed should be completed this week. Here is the rear fender clearanced for the fender flares. The end is boxed in with more metal.

    KIMG0441.jpg

    Front.

The bed side dipped in about an inch when viewed from behind right down the bend line. They stuck it on the frame rack and pulled the center out straight as an arrow.

The one bed side stuck out from the cab a bit, so they cut the spot welds and moved the skin over to align with the cab.

I'm having them smooth the wrinkled metal at the bottom because it is ugly and since one side had more of it than the other. They have some weird sort of bronze/brass welder that apparently doesn't heat the metal too much compared to mig. I guess there is no need to use a torch and braze anymore.

There are also a host of other reinforcements being done. I am putting a fuel door in the bottom of the bed in the rear to fill an additional 20 gallon tank. That will put me at roughly 60 gallons of on board fuel.

With any luck, I'll see the bed in primer this week. I suspect I might have a grill and headlight surrounds done as well.

I got a quote on a custom leather interior and it wasn't as bad as I feared, at least.

New 7075 links are installed. I'll have to clean up where some brake fluid spilled over and melted the paint on the top link.

We had a big wind storm and the tree snapped in half. It knew better than to fall on my truck.

Haha, I'd be scared to fall on that monster truck too.

I'm thinking that an LT4 is the way to go here. I like the idea of 625 ft lbs at 2,800 rpm.

I'm bored with the old school SBC. It seems only right to bring this thing into the 21st century.

Any thoughts as to why not? Chevy Performance sells a divorced ECU and accessory drive kit. And it all comes with a nice warranty.

I'd go LS9. That LT4 has such a rinky dink blower stock and heat soaks.

    Well, LT4 it is...

    KIMG0720.jpg

    KIMG0722.jpg

I got the dry sump version, of course. There are so many things to sort out. GM moved the crank flange toward the engine and put 8 holes in it instead of 6. The top bolt hole on the bell housing doesn't line up. The motor mounts are in a different location. The exhaust manifold is oval (nice flow, too) and I will have to fabricate a flange. It has a liquid to air intercooler. It has an oil cooler that plumbs through the radiator that might not fit.

I'm hoping to have this thing sitting in the truck this week.

Don't forget the controller/ecu, fittings, pipes, intercoolers, accessory kit, parts to mate to the transmission, fabrication work. It will be $20k plus with me doing all the work.

I was getting 10-12 mpg with the SBC. If I get 16-18 mpg with this engine, it will pay for itself in 100k miles.

I've been so busy lately, I forgot to add the rear bumper build.

I have an old military truck to use for such things. I bought it due to a reinforced 1 ton frame that I will ultimately swap over to my truck.

    Some pictures.
